CANAANLAND CLUB RESTATES COMMITMENT TO ECONOMIC GROWTH, TOURISM DEVELOPMENT, YOUTH ENGAGEMENT
- ANNOUNCES DATE FOR INTERNATIONAL LADIES GOLF TOURNAMENT
- DISCLOSES PLANS FOR KOKO 10KM ROAD RACE, KOKO 40KM CYCLING OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The Chairman of CanaanLand Golf & Country Club, Hon Felix Aganbi, on Thursday reaffirmed the club’s drive to position Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government, as a recognized destination for sports, tourism and recreation in Nigeria.
‘’We see a future where Koko becomes known not only for its history and strategic importance but also for hosting sporting events capable of attracting participants and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond’’.
He also announced the hosting of an International Ladies Golf Tournament in 2027 under the auspices of the Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN).
‘’The tournament is expected to attract lady golfers from various clubs across Nigeria, as well as participants from other West African countries’’.
In a statement in Koko, Aganbi disclosed plans for the Koko Marathon (10KM Road Race) and the Koko Cycling Open Championship (40KM Individual Time Trial)
‘’We are engaging relevant sporting authorities, including the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Hon. Phillip Shaibu, regarding these initiatives’’.
Koko, Aganbi said, has all the ingredients to become a respected sporting destination.
‘’Koko possesses many natural advantages. The town is peaceful, accessible, scenic, and strategically positioned between Warri and Benin City. Its waterways, road networks, natural beauty, and calm atmosphere provide ideal conditions for sporting and recreational events. The community also enjoys a reputation for hospitality and peaceful coexistence, qualities that are increasingly important in hosting events of regional and national significance’’
He reiterated that the vision of the club places emphasis on economic growth, tourism development, youth engagement, and community visibility.
‘’Sporting events bring visitors who support hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, local vendors, artisans, and numerous small businesses. Sporting events also create positive media attention, attract investment opportunities, encourage infrastructure improvements, and provide meaningful engagement for young people. For Koko, these opportunities could translate into new economic activity, increased tourism, stronger local businesses, and a renewed sense of pride and identity’’.
Aganbi assured that the management of CanaanLand Golf & Country Club would not relent in its efforts to provide necessary facilities in Koko.
‘’CanaanLand Golf & Country Club presently accommodates various sporting and recreational activities including badminton, table tennis and other social games. Our golf course is also nearing completion of its expansion towards a 72-Par Championship Standard Course. All major events would culminate within the Club, where participants, guests, dignitaries, and visitors would gather for hospitality, award presentations, networking, entertainment, and cultural showcases.
He called on Nigerians to support the development of sports and tourism within Koko.
‘’What started as the development of CanaanLand Golf & Country Club is gradually creating opportunities to attract visitors, sporting enthusiasts, businesses, and investors into our community. We believe this momentum presents an opportunity that should be embraced and expanded for the benefit of Delta State. We also remain optimistic that, with collective effort and support, Koko can become a destination that brings pride, visibility, and economic benefit to the Warri Kingdom for many years to come’’
